Start with One table, four types: pages, books, units and book pages are one table underneath, so most of what you learn about one applies to all, and the page ends with the five content types side by side. The next four pages take one type each, with its routes, its template variables and the code to render it: the page tree, books, blogs and FAQ. Which type, or none closes the unit with three worked decisions and the test that sends content to a custom entity instead.
Unit 01 of 06
6 pages
The built-in content types
Pages, books, blog posts and FAQ questions: what each built-in type is for, when it is the wrong choice, and how to choose. For the content modeller placing content at the start of a build.

01
One table, four types
Pages, books, units and book pages are rows of one database table, so slugs, positions, publishing, revisions, layouts and permissions behave the same across them. What is shared, the few things that still differ, and how all five content types compare.
02
Pages and the page tree
Pages are the default content type: a tree under the home page, where every page's URL is built from the slugs above it. What the tree gives you for free, nested URLs, breadcrumbs and child navigation, which template renders a page, and when a flat structure is the better fit.
03
Books, units and book pages
A book is an ordered, three-level structure: the book, its units and the pages in each unit. When reading order makes a book the right choice, the templates a site provides for each level, the methods for walking a book, and a table of contents with previous and next links in both engines.
04
Blogs and posts
A blog is a container with a listing page; its posts carry their content on revisions, like pages. Where a post's template comes from, the routes and variables of the listings, tags and categories, comments, and the pattern for one post template per kind or per brand.
05
FAQ pages and questions
The FAQ module holds questions, each with one answer, and FAQ pages that list them in a tree. What each record carries, the routes and variables, rendering a page's questions in both engines, building your own voting or ranking, and why it is often the right home for troubleshooting content.
06
Which type, or none
Three worked decisions: a marketing site section, a structured course and a product knowledge base, each ending with the type to use and why. Then the questions that decide any other case, and the point at which none of the built-in types fits.
