Who this is for. Developers and administrators tuning the file manager for a large library. After this page you know which limits authors can change themselves and what turning on document previews costs.
Listing limits
Five settings under Files.fileManager limit how much the file manager lists at once. All five are user-settable: an author can change them for their own account, without an administrator.
| Setting | What it limits | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
numSearchFolders | Folders a search returns | 10 | 0 to 100 |
numSearchFilenames | Filenames a search returns | 100 | 5 to 200 |
numRecentFiles | Recent files shown | 20 | 5 to 200 |
numDeletedFolders | Deleted folders listed | 15 | 5 to 200 |
numDeletedFiles | Deleted files listed | 30 | 5 to 200 |
On a large library, an author whose searches often match more than the defaults can raise the search limits for themselves; the ranges are each setting's own minimum and maximum.
Document preview images
Files.fileManager.documentPreviewImages, off by default, "generates preview images for documents like PDF files and Word files". When it is on, a nightly task makes the previews. Each run spends up to two minutes on the most recently modified files that have no preview yet, then up to two more minutes on a random sample of the rest. Because each run is time-boxed, a large library takes several nights to catch up, and new documents can be listed before they have a preview.
Unlike the listing limits, this setting is not user-settable. It applies to the whole site and is changed in the site's settings by whoever manages them, not by an author for their own account.
