In this release, we are focusing on improving one of the most essential elements of content modelling in Core dna: Components. The release contains multiple features, all aimed at making your life easier in working with the system. Watch our demo video for an intro into the new features:
What’s new in Core dna Platform 2024.4
Component improvements
Duplicate component
Components in a collection can now be duplicated; the copy of the component contains all data (including child components) and is placed in the same collection.
Copy component
Ever wanted to use a similar component in a different location? Using the new copy component feature, you can now copy a component into your clipboard, and paste it in any other area (supporting the component) from the clipboard through the "Add Component" dialogue. Furthermore, this even works across multiple browser tabs or windows!
Global component transformations
Sometimes you already have a global component in place, but still want to edit it without applying the changes to all locations. This is possible through the new "Edit as local copy" feature, which allows you to directly replace a global component with a local copy.
Global component editing
We have listened to your feedback and removed the functionality from the system to edit global components directly in the place they were added to. This functionality was barely used, and lead to issues when global components were accidentally changed in one location with the users being unaware the change would affect other locations as well. Instead, we have now added a link to the dedicated edit page for global components. As a nice bonus, due to global component input fields not being loaded on normal pages anymore, this will also speed up the editing pages.
Components menu
With all of our new features added, showing all of them directly on the component title was not feasible anymore. Hence we have added a shiny new component menu, allowing you to select which action to take. Plus, this will also prevent users from accidentally removing components.
Other improvements and bug fixes
- Global component editing pages now correctly group input fields by layout area groups
- Fixed an issue where tags and categories saved on local components were not shown correctly in the frontend
