Invoices
An order has one or more invoices. An invoice lists what is owed, line by line, in the order's currency: items, shipping, handling, insurance and surcharges, with discount, tax and memo lines for the reader. Invoices also take custom fields, for references your accounts need.
An invoice moves forward only: draft, then open, then paid or void; a paid invoice can become refunded. Only a draft invoice can be deleted: an issued one is part of the record of the sale.
Transactions
Each movement of money at the payment provider is a transaction on the invoice: an authorization (the amount is reserved on the card), a capture (the money is taken), a void or a refund, each pending, successful or in error. A transaction is final once saved; a correction is a new transaction, so the invoice keeps the full history.
When a customer says they paid but the order shows otherwise, read the invoice's transactions: an authorization alone has reserved the money without taking it, which the order shows as Payment Authorized.
Payment methods
The methods a site can take payment with are records under Invoices, Payment methods. Each has a name, a position, a Test Mode switch, an Active switch and, optionally, a site. There are four kinds:
- Stripe: cards and whatever else your Stripe account offers. Connect the account with Connect Stripe Account on the method, then save it to finish; there are no keys to enter.
- PayPal: the Client ID and Secret Key of a PayPal app. It supports full and partial refunds.
- PayPal Donate: PayPal's donate button, with a Business Email or a Hosted Button ID (exactly one). Refunds are not made through it.
- Mock Pay: a test provider that reports payments as successful and moves no money.
